Local Anesthesia

Before You Come
  • You will be contacted prior to your scheduled procedure to discuss any questions and to confirm your appointment and arrival time. If you have any special needs - please let the staff know at this time.
  • Your procedure will be done under local anesthesia. There are no restrictions regarding eating or drinking unless specifically noted by your doctor. We encourage you to eat something before your procedure.
  • Take all your usual medications the day of your procedure, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
  • If your physician has ordered medication for the procedure - take as prescribed.
  • Follow all pre-operative instructions given to you by your doctor.
  • The best way to prepare for your procedure is to relax. Most patients experience only mild discomfort which lasts only a few minutes.
  • Your physician will preform your procedure. You can speak with him after the procedure.
Day of Procedure
  • Bathe or shower the morning of your procedure to minimize the chance of infection.
  • Wear lose, casual clothing and low-heeled shoes. Tight fitting pants are particulary uncomfortable after certain procedures.
  • Leave all valuables such as jewerly, money, checkbook, etc. at home.
  • Bring your insurance card or any necessary referral forms.
  • Bring a complete list of your medications (name and dosage) and allergies with reactions.
  • Limit the number of people who accompany you. To maximize the comfort of all visitors, we suggest that adult patients be accompanied, if necessary, by only one person.
Recovery Period
  • Since your procedure will be preformed under local or topical anesthesia, you will be able to leave the center immediately after your procedure.
  • You may experience some discomfort for the remainder of the day. You will be instructed by your physician whether you will be able to return to work that day or the following day.
At Home After Your Procedure
  • Your doctor will provide post-operative instructions regarding diet, rest and medications. In the event of any difficulty, call your doctor or his answering service.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours after receiving anesthesia or pain medication.
